Well we have heard the phrase being used, and it’s usually not in a good way. The phrase we are speaking of is the term “plumbers crack”. How did this term even originate? We would like to put this issue to rest and dive deep into the term history books and help you understand where the term “plumbers crack” comes from.
Plumbers in Portland are fantastic jovial people that enjoy life and have a trade that everyone is in need of at some point in their lives. Plumbers come in all shapes and sizes and all of them differ in their expertise of plumbing. But one thing that all plumbers do, whether experienced or not, have to bend over to reach those hard to get to pipes. Well as a bystander watching a plumber bend over and fix a pipe, you may get a little peek at something you may not want to see. It’s natural for a person when the bend over to have their shirt ride up their back and their pants naturally pull down a little. This exposes the top quarter of the butt which exposes the separation of the two butt cheeks. Because plumbers bend over so often to do their jobs, the plumbers crack term caught fire. Now whenever you see a person bend over and see a little bit of their top butt crack, people will refer to that as the plumbers crack.
Now this term does not mean that everyone that bends over and shows their butt crack is a plumber, but it is simply alluding to the fact that most plumbers show a little bit of a plumbers crack when bending over. In fact any professional that has a person bend over will usually end up showing other people a little plumber’s crack. Now it does require a little more than just bending over as you need to be on your knees bending over. With your knees bent, it forces the butt part of your pants to drop because the pressure of the knees on the floor does not allot the pants to stay securely over the butt crack. This is most typical of plumbers because they have to get on their hands and knees to get under the sink to fix the issue.
The term “plumbers crack” is used all the time today. Anytime a person sees that little bit of butt crack, they have been deemed to have a plumbers crack. This can be a pretty funny moment when a plumbers crack is spotted, but we hope that we have explained to you in enough detail for you to truly understand the joke that can humiliate plumbers.

This was a really great read. It makes sense, the knees pressing the fabric against the floor causing the back of the pants to pull down. Whoever said that a little science and math could not explain anything should read this. Now it is still funny and well maybe less funny if the plumber is a babe. In that case it could become a bit interesting. Regardless I am doing an article on my blog about Plumbers crack and neckties. I will make a brief mention of this article including a one way anchored text link to it in two locations. As well I may quote you on the finer points of the cause and effect of plumber crack. I think that people would be glad to know why the crack is so prevalent for plumbers. Funny for sure but I guess for the sake of respect the plumbers need to have someone defend their honor – it’s not their fault that fashion designers have not figured out the solution to this problem. So now I know why and how. In my article defending the guys who prefer to wear suits and ties - making mention of the alternative to dressing like a gentlemen and going the relaxed method – the casual dress code which is what I refer to as an alternate way of self expression especially when a guy has his pants riding so low that he is “cracking like a plumber .“ At the expense of plumbers this is my way of getting the point across.
